Khartoum: Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare Moatasem Ahmed Saleh met with Libya's Minister of Social Affairs Dr. Wafa Al-Kilani on Tuesday to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in social protection and development. The meeting, held in the Libyan capital, focused on the coordination concerning Sudanese residents in Libya and voluntary return and reintegration programs.According to Sudan News Agency, the discussions emphasized the importance of developing a social partnership between the two nations. Both parties agreed to appoint direct focal points within their ministries and support efforts to establish a unified social registry of Sudanese in Libya. This registry will particularly focus on vulnerable groups, including women, children, older persons, people with disabilities, and humanitarian cases.The Libyan Minister of Social Affairs expressed her support for Sudan's inclusion in the Sudanese-Libyan Committee for Technical and Logistical Coordination and Voluntary Return. She hig hlighted the need for cooperation with organizations and partners to ensure the safe and dignified return of Sudanese citizens and their reintegration into local communities.The meeting resulted in an agreement to expand institutional cooperation in various areas, including social protection, poverty reduction, women's empowerment, and capacity building. Both sides plan to exchange expertise and national strategies related to social protection, child welfare, and women's cooperatives. They also aim to coordinate their positions at relevant regional and international forums.Additionally, the two countries agreed to organize the Arab Forum on Family and Social Protection in the Context of Crises and Recovery in Khartoum in November 2027. This forum, supervised by the Arab Family Organization and chaired by Dr. Wafa Al-Kilani, will serve as a platform for sharing experiences and developing initiatives that support affected families and communities.The meeting also reviewed a draft memorandum of understandi ng between the two ministries, submitted by Libya. Both parties committed to completing its review to facilitate signing in the near future.Minister Mo'tasem Ahmed Saleh extended an invitation to Dr. Wafa Al-Kilani to visit Sudan, which she accepted, marking a step towards a sustainable partnership in social protection and development, aimed at improving conditions for families and communities in both countries.
