Steering Committee Launches National Initiative to End War in Sudan

Khartoum: The Steering Committee for the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue has announced the initiation of a national effort aimed at fostering dialogue within Sudan to find solutions to the ongoing crisis and end the war. The committee emphasized that the initiative is grounded in national consensus, firmly rejecting any external influence or control.According to Sudan News Agency, the announcement was made during a press conference at Al-Salam Rotana Hotel in Khartoum. The committee highlighted the severe challenges faced by the Sudanese population due to the war, including loss of life, human rights violations, displacement, deteriorating services, and destruction of infrastructure and property.The initiative is intended to align with the aspirations of the Sudanese people for security and stability. The aim is to establish a shared vision concerning the dialogue's conditions, framework, and assurances, while also addressing the concerns of involved parties and bridging differences.The committee insisted that the dialogue should be an independent Sudanese endeavor, achieved not through exclusion or predetermined arrangements, but through listening, consultation, and establishing a foundational level of trust around the dialogue's conditions and framework.It urged the state to provide necessary assurances for conducting the dialogue within Sudan, including suspending legal complaints against Sudanese abroad participating in the dialogue and granting participants temporary immunity from legal proceedings during their involvement.Moreover, the committee called for a supportive environment for freedoms, allowing all Sudanese to express their views and ensuring the protection of dialogue venues from state interference.The committee appealed to the international community and regional organizations to support efforts for a conducive environment for dialogue, promoting consultation, and respecting Sudanese autonomy in the dialogue process.In conclusion, the committee stated that the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue Preparation Initiative is a step towards rebuilding trust and initiating comprehensive dialogue, leading to a stable transitional period and free elections that reinforce the people's authority.
