Khartoum: The Director-General of Production and Economic Resources in Sennar State, Engineer Nour-Eddin Dawood Musa, met with the Programme Manager of the World Food Programme (WFP), Karem Abdel-Moneim, to discuss arrangements for implementing a project aimed at strengthening food crop production.
According to Sudan News Agency, the project focuses on sorghum, millet, and groundnuts and is financed under an agreement between the Government of Sudan and the African Development Bank (AfDB). Nour-Eddin praised the WFP's efforts in supporting agriculture and small-scale farmers in the state, affirming that his ministry would provide all necessary facilities to ensure the project's success. For his part, the WFP Programme Manager said the project targets Sennar State and the Blue Nile Region and aims to increase crop productivity by supporting small-scale farmers cultivating between five and 15 feddans through the introduction of modern technologies.
He praised the Ministry of Production for its cooperation and flexibility in facilitating the implementation of the project. The project coordinator in Sennar State, Engineer Al-Sadig Borma, said the initiative targets 105,000 beneficiaries among small-scale farmers in the localities of Al-Dinder and Abu Hajar.
The WFP official explained that the project would introduce harvesting technologies to reduce post-harvest losses, improve storage, and develop marketing opportunities for crops. It will also support the rehabilitation of small farmers' associations and provide training in resource management. The project is being implemented by the WFP in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Siemens.
