Khartoum: Red Sea State held a ceremony on Thursday evening to honor and bid farewell to the Consul General of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Port Sudan, Ambassador Ahmed Youssef Abbas, on the occasion of the conclusion of his term of service.
According to Sudan News Agency, the ceremony was held under the patronage of the Wali of Red Sea State, Lieutenant General Mustafa Mohamed Nour. Those attending included the Wali of Red Sea State, a representative of the Commander of the Red Sea Military Zone, the State Police Director, Ambassador Onour, representing the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Engineer Jailani Mohamed Jailani, Director-General of the Sea Ports Corporation, traditional leaders, and members of the Egyptian Embassy.
Addressing the ceremony, Wali Mustafa Mohamed Nour expressed gratitude for the presence of Ambassador Ahmed Youssef in Port Sudan. He praised the Egyptian mission's patience and openness in dealing with the demands and pressures of citizens and officials, as well as the Egyptian authorities' decision to open the borders and facilitate the entry of Sudanese citizens during the early stages of the war.
Ambassador Onour, representing the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the significant role of the Egyptian Consulate in Port Sudan, along with the consulate in Wadi Halfa, as crucial pillars of relations between the two countries since the outbreak of the conflict instigated by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. He commended the services provided by Consul Ahmed Youssef to Sudanese students admitted to Egyptian universities and to patients seeking medical treatment.
Egypt's Consul General, Ambassador Ahmed Youssef, also addressed the ceremony, reflecting on his period of service in Port Sudan and expressing his gratitude to the Wali of Red Sea State. He affirmed the depth of both the official and personal relations that had developed during his tenure and recounted his participation in numerous social and official occasions in the state.
