Khartoum: The State of Qatar has reiterated its steadfast commitment to supporting Sudan's unity and territorial integrity, emphasizing the Sudanese people's right to a dignified life, security, and stability. Qatar expressed deep concerns over the ongoing armed conflict in Sudan, which has resulted in unprecedented suffering for the Sudanese populace.
According to Sudan News Agency, Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al-Miftah, Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva, delivered a statement on Monday during the interactive dialogue on Sudan at the 63rd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. Dr. Al-Miftah condemned all violations occurring amidst the armed conflict in Sudan and underscored the importance of adhering to international humanitarian law, which prohibits targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure during conflicts.
Dr. Al-Miftah highlighted Qatar's ongoing commitment to providing support and assistance to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. She announced that Qatar Charity has earmarked approximately QAR 18 million, or nearly US$5 million, for humanitarian interventions in Sudan in 2026. These funds will address urgent needs related to displacement, food, health, shelter, water, and essential services.
Furthermore, Qatar's representative praised the international and regional efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Sudan. She emphasized the necessity for dialogue among all Sudanese factions and advocated for comprehensive, Sudanese-led negotiations to forge a lasting peace agreement.
