Damascus: Minister of Justice Mazhar al-Wais met with a delegation from the European Parliament, led by Hana Jalloul Moro, vice chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, to discuss ways to strengthen judicial cooperation.
According to Syrian Arab News Agency, the meeting focused on enhancing legal cooperation and exchanging expertise to develop judicial and legislative systems. The discussions highlighted the current legal challenges in Syria and explored mechanisms to reinforce the rule of law and human rights principles, respecting national particularities and adhering to international standards.
Minister al-Wais emphasized the importance of international cooperation in advancing justice, particularly in judicial modernization, fair trial guarantees, and combating organized crime. He advocated for establishing effective partnerships with European institutions.
Moro commended the efforts to improve the judicial work environment and affirmed the European Parliament’s commitment to supporting legal dialogue a
nd cooperation with national institutions to achieve justice and safeguard fundamental rights.
