Red sea: Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General (Police) Babiker Samra Mustafa, acknowledged the significant role played by the Customs Forces in safeguarding the national economy and protecting the country's resources, emphasizing the need for ongoing anti-smuggling initiatives and advancement in institutional performance.
According to Sudan News Agency, the minister's remarks were made during an inspection visit to the Red Sea Customs Directorate, where he was joined by a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Interior. The delegation was welcomed by Director-General of the Customs Forces Lieutenant General (Police) Salah Ahmed Ibrahim, Director of Red Sea Customs Major General (Police) Magdi Madani Al-Sheikh, and other customs and field commanders.
The visit began with a tour of an exhibition showcasing major seizures by the Customs Forces. The minister also examined the Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA) hall, assessing the services and procedures available to clients. He commended the vigilance and professionalism of customs personnel, affirming their role as the first line of defense against smuggling and in protecting the national economy.
The Interior Minister highlighted the pivotal role of customs authorities in supporting the national economy and preserving state resources. He noted that efforts against gold smuggling are directly contributing to revenue increases and securing foreign currency. He also praised the dedication and performance of customs personnel across various sites, acknowledging their efforts despite challenges.
On the institutional development front, he emphasized the importance of adopting technological advancements and digital transformation to streamline customs procedures, ensuring speed, efficiency, and transparency in service delivery. He advocated for strengthened training and qualification programs, underscoring the necessity of capacity-building and professional development for modernizing customs operations.
Lieutenant General Salah Ahmed Ibrahim appreciated the minister's visit, viewing it as a sign of the state leadership's and Ministry of Interior's commitment to enhancing customs operations and supporting personnel. He assured that the Customs Forces are advancing efforts to increase revenues, tighten control over crossings and ports, and improve customs services to bolster the national economy.
Major General Magdi Madani Al-Sheikh described the visit as a morale booster for customs staff, reiterating the Customs Forces' dedication to protecting the nation's resources and achievements.
