Khartoum: Human Resources Minister and Social Welfare Motasem Ahmed Saleh recently convened a meeting with a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), led by Deputy Head of Mission Freya Radhi. The meeting was also attended by Sabine Gralla, Head of the ICRC Sub-Delegation in Khartoum, Mohamed Fawzi Sahl, Physical Rehabilitation Programme Officer, and senior officials from the General Authority for Prosthetic Devices and Artificial Limbs.
According to Sudan News Agency, the discussion focused on the implementation of a cooperation agreement between the ministry and the ICRC, emphasizing the development of prosthetics and assistive-device services. Key areas included the provision of raw materials, manufacturing inputs, staff training, and capacity building. The aim is to create a comprehensive care and rehabilitation pathway for individuals injured in the war, from hospital treatment to receiving prosthetic limbs or assistive devices, ultimately aiding in the restoration of mobility and independence.
The ICRC delegation reiterated its commitment to supporting prosthetics and rehabilitation programs within existing resources. Both parties explored plans for an expanded community meeting later this month, involving relevant institutions and organizations to gather support for the urgent needs of beneficiaries, especially given the rising demand for rehabilitation services in war-affected regions such as Darfur, Kordofan, and Blue Nile.
Additionally, the meeting addressed humanitarian issues stemming from the war, highlighting the ICRC's role concerning prisoners of war, detainees, and missing persons. Both parties emphasized the necessity of sustained cooperation and coordination to alleviate the suffering of war-affected individuals, uphold human dignity, and provide much-needed support to those in dire need.
