Health Emergency Operations Center Instructs Direct Support to Darfur and Kordofan States

Khartoum: The Health Emergency Operations Center convened its 100th regular meeting at the Ministry of Health headquarters in Khartoum, focusing on the nation’s health conditions and reviewing interventions implemented over the past week.

According to Sudan News Agency, Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, commended the center’s staff for their unwavering dedication, noting their continuous efforts since the onset of the war. The staff have been actively traveling between Khartoum, Madani, Kassala, and Port Sudan to fulfill their duties.

Dr. Haitham emphasized the importance of providing direct support to the states of Darfur and Kordofan and called for additional support from international and UN organizations. He highlighted the urgency of serving the Sudanese people across the country and directed the provision of emergency workers’ entitlements in Darfur states. Moreover, he urged the breaking of the humanitarian and health blockade in North Darfur to deliver essential services and save lives.

The meeting included reports from various directorates. The cholera report detailed 1,913 cases, including 43 deaths across 12 states. Dengue fever cases numbered 61 in Khartoum State, with no deaths reported. Additionally, 35 measles cases were identified in North Darfur and Khartoum States, also with no fatalities.

The autumn report noted that 13 localities in three states were impacted by rains, affecting 60 families. The emergency response report outlined ongoing interventions to manage the cholera epidemic, while the health promotion report described efforts in several states to disseminate awareness messages through media and community dialogues.

The medical supply report highlighted disparities in the availability of medicines and epidemic control supplies among states. North Kordofan, Northern, Al-Gadarif, River Nile, and Kassala States were noted for having the most abundant supplies, out of a total of 56 items.

Concerning quarantine, the report recorded the entry of 13,137 people into the country through various points, in contrast to the departure of 12,982 people. Additionally, 142 citizens voluntarily returned from the Sultanate of Oman.
