Khartoum: Finance Minister Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim has highlighted the profound impact of the war initiated by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on Sudan's economic capabilities. Emphasizing the extensive damage, Ibrahim pointed out that the militia's actions have not only resulted in loss of life but also led to forced displacement and significant destruction of infrastructure and economic resources.
According to Sudan News Agency, during a meeting with the Prime Minister, government members, and representatives of political and civil forces alongside a delegation of African Union ambassadors and members of the African Peace and Security Council, Ibrahim explained that the militia deliberately targeted essential services, with a particular focus on power stations, aiming to deprive citizens of electricity. He also addressed the ineffectiveness of international sanctions imposed on Sudan, urging the African Union to reconsider its stance and reinstate Sudan's membership.
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Ahmed Modawi Musa detailed the destruction inflicted on Sudan's higher education and scientific research infrastructure by the RSF militia. Musa noted that the attacks were aimed at stalling Sudan's development, affecting university staff and students, which he described as a blatant violation of norms. He appealed to the African Union to support Sudanese educational institutions and assist in their reconstruction, emphasizing that the repercussions extend beyond Sudan and impact the entire African continent.
Minister of Minerals Nour Al-Daim Taha called for the African Union to take a definitive stance against external interference in Sudan's internal affairs. He urged the Union to pressure the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to cease its support and arming of the RSF militia, warning that the conflict could potentially spread to other African nations. Taha commended the African Union's rejection of parallel governmental entities and reiterated the Sudanese government's commitment to a just peace that aligns with the aspirations of the Sudanese populace. He also criticized certain Sudanese political groups for siding with the Al-Dagalo militia, which he believes has exacerbated and extended the conflict.
