Cairo: Minister of Energy and Petroleum Engineer Motasem Ibrahim Ahmed held talks in Cairo with the regional representative and general manager of Chinese company Sieyuan, alongside Director General of the Sudanese Electricity Transmission Company Engineer Yasser Mohamed Al-Shazali. The focus of the discussions was on enhancing cooperation in the electricity sector and advancing reconstruction projects.
According to Sudan News Agency, the meeting evaluated the progress of manufacturing transformers for the Merowe Dam. Both parties agreed that final testing of the generating transformer should commence by the end of September. They also discussed submitting a revised timetable to expedite the delivery of the Northern Transformer, its accessories, and related reactor equipment and systems.
Furthermore, Sieyuan plans to propose technical solutions for the supply of four emergency mobile substations with capacities of 500, 220, 110, and 33 kilovolts (kV). The company is also looking to expand projects in solar and wind energy. A visit to Sudan is scheduled for October to conduct field assessments of potential sites, including the proposed location for a wind power plant in Dongola.
The company expressed its willingness to dispatch specialized technical teams to Sudan to evaluate the damage inflicted on power generation and transmission facilities due to the war, and to aid in their rehabilitation and reconstruction.
Concluding the meeting, Sieyuan extended an invitation to the Energy Minister and his team to visit China. This invitation aims to continue the dialogue and further strengthen cooperation in the fields of electricity, energy, and reconstruction.
