El Alamein Joint Declaration Supports Sudan’s Unity and Sovereignty

New Alamein City:The leaders of Sudan, Egypt, Eritrea, and Somalia have reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of international law, emphasizing respect for sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. This commitment was articulated in the El Alamein Joint Declaration following a quadrilateral consultative summit held in New Alamein City, hosted by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi, with participants including Sudan's General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

According to Sudan News Agency, the declaration expressed strong support for the unity and sovereignty of Sudan, rejecting the formation of parallel entities and advocating for the continuation of a Sudanese-led political process. The leaders also refused any backing for mercenaries.

The declaration also underscored support for Somalia's unity and sovereignty, rejecting any attempts to undermine it, including support for 'Somaliland.' The leaders reiterated that governance of the Red Sea should remain the responsibility of the nations bordering it and supported the principle of freedom of navigation.

Water security was another focal point, with the declaration stressing adherence to international laws regarding transboundary rivers like the Nile, rejecting unilateral actions that could harm downstream countries, namely Egypt and Sudan.

The leaders pledged support for Somalia's fight against terrorism and urged international partners to provide sustainable funding for the African Union's mission in Somalia. The summit concluded with an agreement to enhance coordination among participating countries and to establish a mechanism for tracking the summit's outcomes, with plans to hold regular meetings. The Presidents of Sudan, Eritrea, and Somalia extended their gratitude to Egypt for hosting the summit.
