Car Import Regulating Committee Outlines Strict Controls on Vehicle Imports

Khartoum: The Car Import Regulating Committee has convened to discuss the enforcement of Cabinet decision No. (154) concerning car imports, with a focus on regulations affecting vehicles of Sudanese nationals working abroad. This meeting, overseen by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Gebrirl Ibrahim, emphasized the necessity of restricting all car imports lacking an import form, highlighting that no exceptions will be made for parties violating this decision.

According to Sudan News Agency, the committee reaffirmed the government’s commitment to activating banking regulations as a means to address any violations identified during the decision’s implementation. Furthermore, the committee deliberated on the mechanisms required to regulate the unloading of pallets that do not meet the stipulated requirements for personal belongings of returning citizens. This is in line with a previous decision that exempts personal belongings from customs duties.

In addition, the committee announced plans to execute general government directives aimed at controlling vehicle imports and unloading goods in compliance with the banking procedures set by the Central Bank of Sudan (CBoS). This move is intended to curb the increased demand for the dollar, mitigate its adverse effects on the national currency exchange rate, and safeguard the national economy from potential repercussions.

In a related matter, the Export Proceeds Committee confirmed the deposit of livestock export proceeds for the current year into the main government account at the Central Bank of Sudan from January up to the present. The committee stressed the importance of adhering to banking and technical procedures for these deposits.

The meeting saw participation from key figures, including the Minister of Industry and Trade, the Undersecretary for Animal Resources, the Director of the Economic Security Directorate of the General Intelligence Service, and a representative from the Central Bank of Sudan.
