Khartoum: Attorney General Intisar Ahmed Abdel-Aal, Chairperson of the National Committee for Investigation into Crimes and Violations of National Law and International Humanitarian Law and Head of Sudan's delegation, addressed the Human Rights Council on Monday during the interactive dialogue on Sudan, held as part of the Council's 63rd session.
According to Sudan News Agency, she briefed the Council on the committee's fifth interim report, emphasizing that external support for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia was significantly prolonging the conflict and perpetuating violations. Abdel-Aal called for condemnation and decisive measures to halt such support, while reaffirming Sudan's opposition to any external mechanisms that bypass national efforts, adhering to its stance on the resolution establishing the Fact-Finding Mission.
Intisar Abdel-Aal also updated the Council on political developments, particularly preparations for the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue, underscoring that the paths of peace and justice go hand in hand. Regarding the committee's work, the Attorney General disclosed that 153,112 criminal cases had been registered, including 391 cases against members of regular forces whose immunity had been lifted. Investigations were completed in 22,608 cases, which were referred to the courts, while 10,733 cases had been adjudicated.
The committee further documented 2,261 cases of rape, 15,227 cases of detention and enforced disappearance, 32,622 deaths, and 46,443 injuries. The Attorney General called on the Human Rights Council and United Nations mechanisms to support the National Committee and uphold the principle of complementarity, renewing her call for immediate measures to halt external support for the militia.
