Khartoum: Vice-President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Malik Agar, highlighted the necessity for the Quintet mechanism to prioritize ending the ongoing war before initiating any political dialogue. Agar underscored the importance of engaging with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the main supporter of the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, to halt the conflict.
According to Sudan News Agency, during a meeting with a delegation from the Quintet mechanism, Agar emphasized that the subsequent steps should aim to back Sudanese initiatives to achieve a political resolution that could conclude the war. He reflected on Sudan's history of political agreements facilitated by African nations and supported internationally, noting their failure to resolve Sudan's issues due to a focus on power-sharing rather than addressing fundamental crisis causes.
Agar conveyed that the Quintet delegation's visit-which includes representatives from the United Nations, African Union, Arab League, IGAD, and European Union-was intended to share insights on how they could contribute positively to ending the conflict in Sudan.
The Quintet delegation, in turn, confirmed their willingness to support the Sudanese Political Consultation Committee's efforts, ensuring they would not interfere in its agenda or the political dialogue's progression. Delegation members expressed contentment with the resumption of normalcy in Khartoum, describing the visit as a fresh start for their initiatives. They also mentioned maintaining ongoing communication with other Sudanese political factions hesitant to engage, with the goal of uniting efforts to cease the war.
