Khartoum: President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, met on Sunday at his office in the Republican Palace with the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Sudan, Pekka Haavisto. The meeting focused on the overall situation in Sudan, efforts to strengthen security and stability, and achieving comprehensive peace in the country.
According to Sudan News Agency, Pekka Haavisto stated in a press release that he conveyed significant messages concerning de-escalation and the protection of civilians. The discussions also touched on future meetings aimed at exchanging prisoners and civilian detainees, in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Haavisto emphasized that dialogue is crucial for attaining sustainable peace and a comprehensive ceasefire. He expressed his willingness to engage with all Sudanese parties and stakeholders and to collaborate with partners in the Quintet to advance an inclusive and comprehensive political process that aligns with the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
Haavisto also highlighted the importance of conducting unified examinations across the country, noting that this issue is a major concern for the international community. He mentioned that the United Nations is working closely with UNICEF to ensure children's fundamental right to participate in accredited examinations throughout Sudan. Concluding his remarks, Haavisto praised the ongoing reconstruction efforts, observing the various construction projects that are restoring normalcy in the city.
