Sudan’s Economic Challenges Addressed in High-Level Meeting with UN Official

New York:Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Muawiya Othman Khalid, held discussions with Li Junhua, United Nations Undersecretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, during his visit to New York.

According to Sudan News Agency, the Undersecretary expressed Sudan's gratitude for the United Nations' ongoing support for development and peace initiatives in the country. He provided a detailed overview of Sudan's current economic situation and the challenges it faces, emphasizing the government's commitment to reforming the financial system, supporting reconstruction and essential services, and seeking the lifting of the World Bank's temporary suspension of operations with Sudan. He also elaborated on efforts to advance digital transformation and enhance partnerships with the private sector, focusing on digitizing trade and investment procedures.

Li Junhua commended the Sudanese government's efforts in economic recovery and its successful Voluntary National Review on the Sustainable Development Goals, achieved last year despite the difficulties posed by the conflict. He affirmed the UN's willingness to cooperate by offering capacity-building programs, sharing expertise, and coordinating with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on the implementation of the Integrated National Financing Framework, in line with the government e-services single-window project.
