Sudan’s Diplomatic Engagements with German Parliament Intensify Amidst Ongoing Conflict

Berlin: The Sudanese Mission in Berlin has continued its active diplomatic engagement with members of the German Bundestag, focusing on recent developments in Sudan.

According to Sudan News Agency, Ambassador Elham Ibrahim Mohamed Ahmed met with Stefan Mayer, a Member of the Bundestag and spokesperson for the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its partner, the Bavarian Christian Social Union (CSU), to discuss the situation in Sudan. The meeting, attended by Deputy Head of the Mission Ambassador Idris Mohamed Ali, took place on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

The discussions centered on the recent victories by Sudan’s Armed Forces against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and the government’s efforts to promote peace and stability. Ambassador Elham Ibrahim provided insights into the humanitarian situation, highlighting crimes by rebel militias, and discussed political advancements such as the appointment of Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris and the formation of an independent government to handle transitional issues.

Ambassador Ilham expressed gratitude for Germany’s humanitarian aid and urged the German Parliament to consider the complexities of the conflict and foreign influences. Stefan Mayer, representing the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, expressed his keen interest in Sudanese affairs and pledged to support peace initiatives in the region, emphasizing Sudan’s strategic importance in East Africa.

Stefan Mayer, who is the rapporteur for the East Africa region for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, has been part of the German coalition government since February 2025, under Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
