Khartoum:The Sudanese government on Tuesday issued a warning against the exploitation of the humanitarian situation in the country to impose political conditions under the guise of a humanitarian armistice. The government expressed concerns that such a proposal would provide the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia with an opportunity to rearm and redeploy.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that certain countries and organizations are attempting to take advantage of the humanitarian crisis to promote political agendas. The Ministry reiterated the government's commitment to the Jeddah Declaration as the framework for negotiations to end the ongoing conflict. It also firmly rejected any attempts to use humanitarian assistance to bolster the RSF's capabilities.
Sudanese diplomatic sources indicated that the United States had suggested a one-month humanitarian armistice. However, the proposal reportedly lacks arrangements for troop withdrawals and does not include clear mechanisms to monitor the ceasefire, raising concerns about its effectiveness and potential implications.
