Sudan Signs Regional Health Cooperation Agreement with Yemen, Somalia, and Djibouti

Khartoum: Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, signed a joint cooperation agreement forming a health alliance among four countries: Sudan, Yemen, Somalia, and Djibouti. The agreement seeks to enhance regional cooperation in addressing health challenges.

According to Sudan News Agency, the signing ceremony was attended by the health ministers of the participating countries, alongside the Director of the International Health Directorate, Dr. Alaa Al-Tayib Madathir. The World Health Organization (WHO) provided coordination and technical support for the agreement, which focuses on improving resource mobilization, health planning, and controlling epidemics and diseases.

The agreement marks a significant step in strengthening the health response across the signatory nations. It was decided that the first meeting of the joint mechanism will take place in Sudan next January, initiating a new phase of technical cooperation and health integration among the countries involved.

Months of technical
meetings coordinated by the General Directorate of International Health led to this strategic agreement. It aims to achieve sustainable health development goals, particularly in the face of shared challenges such as climate change, displacement, and epidemic threats.
