Khartoum: Sudan is actively participating in the 32nd General Assembly of the African Organisation for Standardisation (ARSO) through a high-level delegation led by the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO).
According to Sudan News Agency, the delegation is headed by SSMO Director-General Rahba Saeed Abdalla and includes the Director of the Standards Department and the Director of the International Relations Unit. The meetings are being held in the Kenyan city of Mombasa, hosted by the Kenya Bureau of Standards from August 24 to 28, under the theme: 'Standards Enable Intra-African Trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area - One Certificate Works for You.'
Director-General of the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization, Rahba Saeed Abdalla, said Sudan's participation in the continental gathering reflects the country's commitment to continuing its leading role in building and developing quality infrastructure in Africa. She noted that the organization is working intensively to align national standards with African standards in a manner that enhances the competitiveness of Sudanese products in regional markets and directly supports the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Rahba added that the gathering represents a strategic opportunity to exchange expertise and strengthen comprehensive cooperation with African standardization bodies. She explained that the focus on the principle of 'One Certificate Works for You' would contribute effectively to removing technical barriers to intra-African trade, facilitating exports and simplifying conformity assessment procedures among member states, thereby serving the economic interests of Sudan and African countries alike.
The meetings focus on strengthening mechanisms for the mutual recognition of conformity certificates and harmonizing standards, which is expected to enhance the competitiveness of African products and promote development and economic integration across the continent.
