Khartoum: Sudan is participating in Russian Energy Week with a delegation that includes Minister of Finance Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim and Minister of Energy Eng. Moatassim Ibrahim Ahmed, following an official invitation from the Government of the Russian Federation. The event runs from October 10 to 17, and the two ministers are attending the conference sessions and the plenary meeting, which is expected to be addressed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Sudanese delegation will also hold several bilateral meetings with Russian officials on the sidelines of the conference, as well as with companies operating in the energy and oil sectors. Sudan’s Ambassador to Moscow, Mohamed Al-Ghazali Siraj, highlighted that Sudan’s high-level participation in the Energy Week reflects the growing bilateral relations between Sudan and Russia, which have witnessed positive momentum across various fields. Current efforts are focused on strengthening economic cooperation and building effective partnerships to contribute to Sudan’s reconstruction process.
The Ambassador added that the visit carries particular importance as it came less than a month after the Joint Ministerial Committee meeting between the two countries, held in Moscow at the end of September, during which both sides signed a cooperation protocol in the economic and trade sectors. Ambassador Siraj asserted that Sudan’s participation in the Energy Week provides an important opportunity to advance the implementation of the protocol, particularly in the energy and oil sectors, through a series of high-level meetings expected to take place during the conference.
Ambassador Siraj further noted that Russian Energy Week has become one of the world’s leading international conferences discussing energy and oil issues, bringing together politicians, experts, scientists, and major global companies to exchange views on international policies and the development of the energy and oil industry. This year’s forum is held under the theme: ‘The New Reality of Global Energy: Building the Future’, focusing on international cooperation in the energy sector amid heightened global polarization and current geopolitical challenges affecting a vital sector that remains a cornerstone of development and progress.
