El-Obeid:The Government of Sudan has strongly condemned the recent attacks on the city of El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, which were carried out using suicide drones. These attacks, attributed to the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, resulted in civilian injuries and damage to homes and property.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Sudanese government views these attacks as a serious violation of international humanitarian law, jeopardizing the lives of innocent civilians and targeting residential neighborhoods and civilian facilities. The government considers such actions to be war crimes, emphasizing the need for criminal accountability for anyone involved in planning, ordering, or executing these crimes.
The government has explicitly held the RSF militia responsible and highlighted that the security and safety of its citizens are non-negotiable. It stresses the importance of justice for those who commit such crimes against innocent people and calls on international organizations, including the United Nations Security Council and the African Union, to take urgent measures to stop these attacks and prevent the flow of military support to entities committing violations against the Sudanese people.
Sudan's government insists that the ongoing attacks raise questions about the international system's credibility in protecting civilians, demanding more than mere expressions of concern. It remains committed to protecting its citizens, preserving the country's sovereignty, and pursuing peace rooted in the rule of law and accountability.
Furthermore, the government has instructed authorities to provide medical assistance to the injured, support those affected, and document the attacks for future legal proceedings. It emphasizes that there will be no immunity for perpetrators of crimes against civilians, advocating for justice as essential for sustainable peace.
Sudan extends its solidarity with the people of El-Obeid and the residents of North Kordofan State, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
