Sudan and Russia Explore Economic Collaboration and Reconstruction Initiatives

Moscow: Minister of Finance Gebreil Ibrahim and Minister of Energy Eng. Al-Mutassim Ibrahim convened on Monday with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak to discuss enhancing economic partnerships and rebuilding energy and infrastructure sectors. The meeting, attended by Sudan’s Ambassador to Russia, Mohamed Al-Ghazali Siraj, and several Russian officials, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.

According to Sudan News Agency, the Minister of Finance expressed Sudan’s gratitude for Russia’s supportive stance, which has been crucial in maintaining Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim highlighted the country’s latest developments amidst the armed forces’ advances and shared the government’s vision for peace and humanitarian efforts. He underscored Sudan’s aspiration to forge a strategic partnership with Russia across various sectors, praising the recent joint ministerial committee’s outcomes that set a roadmap for expanding economic and trade relations. He noted that implementing these projects is vital for reconstruction, especially in industry, transportation, infrastructure, energy, and agriculture, emphasizing the importance of mutual benefit from Russian investments.

Minister of Energy Eng. Al-Mutassim Ibrahim discussed the war’s impact on the energy and oil sectors, expressing gratitude for Russia’s ongoing support and interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation. He detailed the extent of the damage and the government’s plan to address it, seeking Russia’s pivotal role in reconstructing this essential sector. He also mentioned productive meetings during Russian Energy Week and agreements with the Russian Ministry of Energy and prominent companies in oil and energy.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak stated that Russia values its relationship with Sudan, highlighting recent progress in aligning views on regional and international issues and coordination in international forums. He stressed that the meeting’s inclusion of all relevant stakeholders aimed to yield positive and practical outcomes, particularly in the economic arena through the effective implementation of the governmental committee’s decisions. He noted that both Russian public and private sectors are keen to advance cooperation with Sudan.
