Sudan and China Plan Rehabilitation of Cultural and Media Institutions

Khartoum: Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism, Khalid Al-Ayesir, engaged in discussions with Mr. Xu Jian, the newly appointed Charg© d’Affaires of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Sudan, focusing on the rehabilitation of cultural and media institutions and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.

According to Sudan News Agency, both parties affirmed the enduring strength of Sudanese-Chinese relations and reiterated their commitment to further enhance these ties. Minister Al-Ayesir informed the Chinese representative about the damage inflicted by militias on media institutions, including Radio and Television, the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), and various cultural venues such as museums, theatres, and the Friendship Hall.

During the meeting, the Minister extended official invitations to his Chinese counterparts in the fields of culture, tourism, and media to visit Sudan. In response, Mr. Xu Jian invited Minister Al-Ayesir to attend the 7th China-Arab Radio and Television Cooperation Forum in China next month. Furthermore, Mr. Xu Jian agreed to train a new group of the Sudanese Acrobatic Troupe in China and welcomed the Ministry and troupe for discussions at the Chinese Embassy.

The Chinese Charg© d’Affaires also committed to rehabilitating the cinema at the Sudanese-Chinese Friendship Hall in Khartoum, supporting the Ministry’s efforts to rebuild war-affected institutions. He expressed China’s willingness to engage in long-term cooperation and reconstruction of media, cultural, and tourism sectors in Sudan, emphasizing their inclusion in China’s reconstruction plans for Sudan.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Director General of the Sudan Radio and Television Corporation, Ibrahim Al-Bazai, and other key figures. It is noteworthy that diplomatic relations between Sudan and China, established in 1956, remain among the strongest in the region.
