Khartoum:Red Sea The Community Sponsorship Project in the Red Sea State has provided services to over 22,000 orphaned families since its inception. Currently, 12,000 orphans are directly registered, spread across 3,800 families in the state's ten localities.
According to Sudan News Agency, Hanadi Abu Bakr Ali Badawi, Executive Director of Orphan Sponsorship, highlighted the project as a unique initiative within the Red Sea Community Sponsorship Foundation. The project was launched based on a 2006 Republic decision and aims to unite official and popular efforts to provide comprehensive humanitarian care for orphans and their families.
The support extends beyond monthly cash sponsorships, including the annual distribution of school uniforms to 3,000 to 4,000 students, Ramadan aid, sacrificial animals, and productive projects to help families escape poverty once orphans reach 18.
Professor Tahani noted that one challenge is the lack of identification papers for orphans in remote areas. Efforts are ongoing with the Zakat Bureau, state government, philanthropists, and organizations to acquire necessary documents and legal certificates in cooperation with the Civil Registry.
Hanadi Abu Bakr urged society members and benefactors to help cover tuition fees for orphaned students at secondary and university levels, emphasizing that investing in their education is crucial for their future and protection from child labor.
