Nile River State Prioritizes Animal Resources as Key Driver of National Economy, Announces Integrated Animal Production City

Al-damer: The Wali of Nile River State, Dr. Mohamed Al-Badawi Abdel-Majid Abu-Goroun, asserted that the animal resources sector constitutes the real pathway to revitalizing the national economy. He made the remarks while receiving Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries, Prof. Ahmed Al-Tijani Al-Mansouri, in his office on Friday in Al-Damer, in the presence of the Deputy Wali, the Acting Minister of Animal Resources, and the Secretary-General of the State Government.

According to Sudan News Agency, the Wali welcomed the Minister and his accompanying delegation, stating that Nile River State accords the animal resources sector the highest priority as a core pillar of economic advancement. He noted that the state had established a dedicated Ministry of Animal Resources for this purpose, praised the ministry’s ongoing initiatives, and stressed the need to modernize the sector, move beyond traditional practices, expand export capacity-particularly in processed and slaughtered meat-and ensure the full utilization of all slaughter by-products.

He called for federal support in establishing an animal resources zone in Nile River State, which he said would serve as a national export hub. He also welcomed the proposed establishment of an animal production city, affirming that all administrative procedures would be completed once technical requirements are finalized.

The Wali further underscored the necessity of domestic and international training and qualification programs for personnel in the sector, drawing on external expertise to improve performance. He also urged the activation of the Animal Resources Bank as a specialized institution capable of financing animal production projects, particularly youth-led collective ventures.

For his part, Minister Al-Mansouri commended the state government’s commitment to developing the sector, reflected in their visits to various localities and consultations with local animal resources authorities. He announced the establishment of an integrated animal production city in Nile River State, explaining that the state was selected due to its proximity to the national capital and Red Sea export outlets, as well as its freedom from major animal diseases.

The Minister added that the ministry’s current plan aims to boost exports of processed and slaughtered meat by preparing modern abattoirs capable of fully utilizing all by-products-such as hides and offal-and by establishing modern tanneries.

Meanwhile, the State’s Deputy Wali and Minister of Animal Resources, Mustafa Mohamed Al-Sharif highlighted the outcomes of the joint meeting between the Minister and state-level animal resources leadership. He affirmed their full support for establishing the animal production city, describing it as a gateway for the country’s animal resources exports. He also stressed the importance of strengthening animal production associations and expanding opportunities for youth, particularly recent graduates.
