National Initiative to Support Health Aims to Address Post-Rainy Season Challenges

Port sudan: Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim announced that the National Initiative to Support Health is focused on mobilizing efforts to bridge the health gap during the remaining months of the rainy season. The initiative aims to prepare for potential worsening conditions post-rainy season by identifying essential needs, such as basic medicines and emergency supplies for prevalent diseases.

According to Sudan News Agency, Dr. Ibrahim spoke at the launch of the National Initiative to Support Health, explaining that the initiative was formed by a High Committee chaired by the Minister of Cabinet Affairs and involving senior health officials. He emphasized the unusual spread of epidemics this year, attributing it to infrastructure damage and sabotage by the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia, which left water sources and areas in unsanitary conditions.

Dr. Ibrahim highlighted the Ministry’s mechanisms, such as the Central Emergency Chamber, which collects daily data on epidemiological trends an
d other indicators to support evidence-based decision-making. This year, the focus has been on combating cholera, malaria, and dengue fever, with strategies and field teams in place for at least three months. The minister noted the decline of cholera due to reforms and vaccination campaigns, even reaching Darfur.

He praised the High Committee for coordinating resources with national and international partners, enhancing intervention effectiveness. Additionally, Dr. Ibrahim thanked the Ministry of Finance for its support and acknowledged contributions from UN agencies and other countries, affirming the stability of the current health situation.
