Khartoum: The Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries on Tuesday organized its second online workshop on the problems and challenges facing Sudanese sheep farming as part of the activities of the National Animal Breeding Improvement Plan. Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries Professor Ahmed El-Tijani El-Mansouri stressed the importance of the workshop in identifying the obstacles and challenges facing Sudanese sheep farming and finding scientific and practical solutions to develop production and improve breeds.
According to Sudan News Agency, these efforts would contribute to raising productivity and maximizing the economic value of Sudanese sheep in international markets. El-Mansouri emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts by relevant institutions, livestock breeders, and researchers to develop practical and sustainable solutions for advancing sheep farming, preserving local breeds, and improving their production to support food security and exports.
El-Mansouri outlined an ambitious plan focusing on herd health, pasture systems, and proper nutrition. The plan aims to link production areas with consumption markets, support breeders through guidance, extension services, and financing, and employ technology, artificial intelligence, and traceability systems to connect breeders with markets.
He expressed hope that the workshop would produce scientific and practical outcomes that contribute to improving production and productivity and expanding exports. The workshop witnessed broad participation by specialists in the field of animal resources, featuring scientific presentations on issues related to sheep breeding and the challenges facing breeders, as well as the importance of scientific research and modern technologies in genetic improvement programmes.
