Khartoum: The Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries on Tuesday organized its second online workshop on the problems and challenges facing Sudanese sheep farming as part of the activities of the National Animal Breeding Improvement Plan.
According to Sudan News Agency, Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries Professor Ahmed El-Tijani El-Mansouri emphasized the significance of the workshop in identifying obstacles in Sudanese sheep farming and devising scientific and practical solutions to enhance production and breed quality. He highlighted that these efforts aim to boost productivity and elevate the economic value of Sudanese sheep in global markets.
El-Mansouri advocated for coordinated efforts among relevant institutions, livestock breeders, and researchers to develop practical and sustainable solutions. These solutions are crucial for advancing sheep farming, preserving local breeds, and improving their production, thereby supporting food security and exports.
He elaborated on an ambitious plan that focuses on herd health, pasture systems, and proper nutrition. The plan aims to link production areas with consumption markets and support breeders through guidance, extension services, and financing. It also includes the use of technology, artificial intelligence, and traceability systems to connect breeders with markets.
El-Mansouri expressed hope that the workshop would yield scientific and practical outcomes to improve production, productivity, and expand exports. The workshop featured broad participation from specialists in animal resources, scientific presentations on sheep breeding challenges, and discussions on the role of scientific research and modern technologies in genetic improvement programs.
