Khartoum:Minister of Minerals Nour Al-Daim Taha has reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to protecting the rights of local communities in mining areas and maximizing the returns from community responsibility funds. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that these benefits reach their rightful recipients in a transparent and fair manner, with no intention to diminish these rights.
According to Sudan News Agency, the minister addressed local communities, highlighting that community responsibility rights are guaranteed by law and agreements between the Ministry of Minerals and mining companies. Funds have been allocated according to Decision No. 90, and these rights are described as inherent entitlements rather than grants or subjects for political or media gain.
Taha explained that the ministry aims to use community responsibility revenues for development projects that improve services, create jobs, develop infrastructure, protect the environment, and enhance health and safety in mining areas. He underscored the role of local communities as genuine partners in development, stressing that the benefits of mineral wealth should be visible in citizens' lives and the future of their children.
He further stated that the ministry's commitment to these communities extends beyond legal obligations, encompassing national and moral responsibilities. Efforts will continue to promote transparency, fairness, and collaboration between the ministry, mining companies, and local communities, aiming for balanced and sustainable development.
In conclusion, the minister highlighted that the true value of mineral resources lies not only in production volume but also in their positive impact on people's lives and the sustained benefits they provide to the country and future generations.
