Justice and Rule of Law Conference Reviews Multiple Papers on Opening Day

Kassala: The Justice and Rule of Law Conference, convening its first session on Friday in Kassala State, reviewed several working papers presented by legal specialists.

According to Sudan News Agency, the opening paper, ‘Towards Making a Permanent Constitution Through Community Participation,’ was delivered by Dr. Asim Mahmoud Abdel-Gadir, a lawyer and professor at Kassala University. He outlined core constitutional principles, reviewed Sudan’s constitutional history since 1953, and noted that all previous constitutions were provisional. The paper recommended that the ministry convene an expert forum to design the post-war constitutional process and begin legal preparations for future constitutional requirements.

The second paper, ‘National, Regional, and International Human Rights Mechanisms and Development Proposals,’ was presented by Yassir Sidahmed Al-Hassan, Head of the Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law Directorate at the Ministry of Justice. It reviewed the definitions of human rights, key UN conventions, and national, regional, and international human rights mechanisms.

The third paper, ‘Coordination Between Justice Organs: Reality and Future Vision,’ was presented by the Head of the Kassala State Supreme Court. It highlighted the role of judicial institutions in upholding justice, discussed the establishment of the High Judicial Committee in 2024, and stressed the importance of professional and financial independence as well as robust anti-corruption measures.

A fourth paper, ‘Reality and Challenges of Labor Organizations and Modernization Opportunities,’ was presented by General Consultant Amna Al-Sadig Kubur, Registrar of Labor Organizations. It examined the difficult circumstances faced by labour unions as a result of the war that began in April 2023.
