New York:The Governor of Darfur, Minni Arko Minawi, has criticized the exclusion of Sudan from the United Nations General Assembly, stating it insults the suffering of its people.
According to Sudan News Agency, Minawi emphasized that preventing Sudanese voices from being heard at the international level is a denial of the victims' rights. He questioned how the international community could listen to global voices while ignoring the cries of those affected by conflict in Sudan, including bereaved families, refugees, and the displaced.
Minawi expressed concerns about ongoing violence, stating that a truce cannot be accepted while armed militias and mercenaries occupy homes, seize property, and displace families. He highlighted the continued targeting of Sudanese people and the prevalence of looting, theft, and restricted humanitarian aid, which leaves millions in dire situations.
He reiterated that while they do not oppose peace, they demand a genuine and sustainable peace that ensures civilian protection, humanitarian aid access, and the safe return of displaced persons and refugees. Minawi called for an end to impunity and the preservation of Sudan's unity and sovereignty.
Minawi concluded by urging the international community to listen to the voices of the Sudanese people and victims, asserting that Sudan deserves peace, and its people should live safely and freely in their homeland.
