Omdurman: Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Shams-Eddin Kabbashi, has offered condolences on behalf of the TSC for the passing of Captain Suleiman Abdal-Gadir, a notable national sports figure, who died in Omdurman.
According to Sudan News Agency, the condolence ceremony saw the presence of prominent figures including the Federal Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ahmed Adam; Khartoum State Wali Ahmed Othman Hamza; Al-Tayib Saad-Eddin, Director General of the Khartoum State Ministry of Culture, Information, and Tourism; and Dr. Babiker Ali Yahya, Secretary-General of the Higher Council for Youth and Sports. The ceremony also included a gathering of sports and arts personalities, with the Chief of Jumou'iya Tribe Mohamed Ajeeb Al-Hadi in attendance.
General Kabbashi highlighted Captain Abdal-Gadir's substantial contributions to football, refereeing, and banking. Abdal-Gadir's legacy includes a twenty-year career with Al-Merrikh Club and a coaching tenure of two years. He notably represented Sudan and Al-Merrikh in the 1970 African Cup of Nations. General Kabbashi urged authorities to document Abdal-Gadir's achievements in a booklet for future generations. He also assured attendees of the Armed Forces' commitment to defeating rebels, with ongoing efforts extending to the borders of Darfur.
The Minister of Youth and Sports commended Abdal-Gadir's achievements in sports and pledged support to his family, emphasizing the need to document his career.
Khartoum State Wali Ahmed Othman Hamza acknowledged Abdal-Gadir's contributions not only to Sudan but also to the local community in Omdurman and Al-Merrikh. He pointed out that the large turnout at the condolence events reflects Abdal-Gadir's esteemed status in the community. The Wali has instructed the Council of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Culture and Information to ensure that Abdal-Gadir's career is documented as a model for future generations.
