New York:Ambassador Muawiya Othman Khalid, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met with Ms. Ahunna Eziakonwa, Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General on Africa, during his visit to New York.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Undersecretary briefed Eziakonwa on the current security and humanitarian situation in Sudan, emphasizing the violations by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against civilians, which he described as reaching the level of genocide. He highlighted that ongoing external support for the militia is exacerbating the conflict and worsening the plight of the Sudanese people. Khalid also discussed the government's pursuit of peaceful solutions through internal dialogue and engagement with various initiatives.
The Undersecretary urged the Special Adviser to use her office to support Sudan, raise awareness about the suffering of its people, and pressure countries supplying the militia with weapons to cease such actions.
Eziakonwa expressed her commitment to closely monitor developments in Sudan and conveyed her hope for peace and security for the Sudanese people. She assured that her office would take all necessary steps to assist Sudan, particularly in curbing external support that prolongs the conflict. Eziakonwa also promised to visit Sudan soon to assess the situation directly.
