Khartoum: Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohy-Eddin Salim, met with his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Affairs of Egyptians Abroad, on Sunday evening to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation between Sudan and Egypt.
According to Sudan News Agency, Ambassador Salim expressed his pleasure in participating in the forum’s activities, highlighting the forum as a significant platform for presenting specialized topics and fostering new partnerships between countries. He reiterated his gratitude for Egypt’s supportive stance towards the Sudanese government and emphasized the importance of continuing collaborative efforts to aid the recovery of Sudan’s sectors in preparation for reconstruction.
In response, the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, affirmed Egypt’s ongoing commitment to achieving stability in Sudan. He expressed Egypt’s full solidarity with Sudan, emphasizing support for its stability, security, sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and national institutions. Dr. Abdelatty noted Egypt’s active participation in efforts to end the conflict and welcomed the upcoming second edition of the Egyptian-Sudanese Businesspersons Joint Forum.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister also highlighted plans to convene the joint trade committee in Cairo and the reception of a Sudanese technical delegation to share Egypt’s investment expertise. He reviewed Egypt’s initiatives to restore and rehabilitate infrastructure in Khartoum, including projects on the ‘Al-Halfaya’ and ‘Shambat’ Bridges, and reiterated Egypt’s readiness to assist in the rehabilitation of Sudan’s electricity, water, health, and education sectors.
The meeting also addressed water security issues, emphasizing the unity of Sudan and Egypt as downstream states of the Nile River. Both ministers stressed the necessity for adherence to international law in the Eastern Nile Basin and expressed a total rejection of unilateral actions on the Nile River.
