Khartoum: The Council of Ministers held its regular meeting in Khartoum on Monday, chaired by Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris. The session focused on national initiatives and infrastructure development projects aimed at enhancing the country's energy and transportation sectors.
According to Sudan News Agency, the meeting began with a briefing by Minister of Energy Engineer Al-Mo'tasem Ibrahim on the 'Water and Power for All Sudanese' project. This initiative aims to improve access to energy, including efforts to exempt solar energy systems for personal use from certain charges. Additionally, preparations are underway for an international conference on solar energy investment opportunities scheduled for later this month.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism, Dr. Graham Abdel-Gadir, emphasized the importance of the solar energy project in supporting productive sectors such as agriculture and industry. The Cabinet reviewed regulatory efforts by the Customs Authority and the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) to streamline the importing procedures for solar energy systems. The Ministry of Finance and SSMO have been directed to establish an advanced laboratory for testing imported solar equipment.
The Cabinet also tasked relevant ministries and organizations with engaging the private sector in domestic solar panel manufacturing. Dr. Graham highlighted ongoing efforts and progress in combating smuggling, drug trafficking, and corruption.
In addition, the Cabinet heard a briefing from Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries Professor Ahmed Al-Tijani Al-Mansouri regarding a project to establish livestock production cities across various states. Minister of Justice Dr. Abdalla Mohamed Dirif provided updates on a significant number of stolen vehicles, with data on over 9,000 vehicles documented. Plans are in place to publish this information electronically in coordination with the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Communications and the General Traffic Directorate.
The Cabinet approved the Higher Council for Hajj and Umrah Amendment Bill, 2026, as well as the implementation plan for the Urgent National Project for Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation. This project aims to address road network issues by repairing damaged sections, improving drainage systems, and rehabilitating city entrances and inter-state roads. A committee has been formed to assess the machinery and resources needed for the project's successful execution.
