Animal Resources Minister Emphasizes Technical Needs for Global Market Access

Khartoum: Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries, Professor Ahmed El-Tijani El-Mansouri, highlighted the critical need to address implementation gaps and fulfill technical requirements to bolster Sudan's livestock sector's entry into global markets. During a workshop titled 'Meeting Global Trade Requirements in the Livestock Sector,' El-Mansouri underscored Sudan's substantial livestock resources and potential, stressing the necessity of optimal resource investment to fortify the national economy and enhance the competitiveness of Sudanese animal products.According to Sudan News Agency, El-Mansouri emphasized that the workshop serves as a platform to identify gaps in international trade requirements and devise clear strategies to enhance sector efficiency and competitiveness in foreign markets. He expressed optimism that the workshop would yield practical recommendations for real-world application.Dr. Ammar El-Sheikh Idris, the Undersecretary of the Ministry, reiterated the significance of ensuring an imal product quality in line with World Trade Organization (WTO) standards, which is crucial for sustainable market access. He also highlighted the importance of leveraging veterinary expertise to advance the livestock sector.Dr. Hanadi Abbas, Director of the World Trade Accession Unit, remarked that the workshop aligns with global trade requirements and marks a positive step towards adopting international standards. She pointed out that the workshop occurs amid rapid global market changes and increased demand for Sudanese animal products, presenting significant investment opportunities contingent on meeting trade requirements.The workshop featured five papers discussing various aspects, including the state of veterinary services in Sudan, the Agreement on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, animal disease-free zones, animal identification and traceability systems, and successful case studies from African and European countries that have met international standards to compete globally.
